This project involved the transformation of the ground and basement floors of a London terraced house. The design centred on two key objectives: improving circulation throughout the home and introducing natural light into the sunken basement, where the client wanted the primary living space connected to the garden. A glazed strip was inserted within the existing building volume, flooding the interior with daylight and creating a striking double-height space. From the entrance level, the design leads down past a half-level library to a bright new kitchen and dining area that opens onto the garden. As this was one of my earliest projects at Coupdeville, my role combined learning and contribution. I shadowed my director during client meetings and site visits, gaining first-hand insight into the design and construction process. Alongside this, I was responsible for producing drawings and physical models to support both client presentations and planning submissions. Witnessing the completed home was especially rewarding, having been involved from the project’s very first sketches.
