Following the success of a rear extension next door, we secured planning permission for a new-build home on an exclusive road in Chiswick. The design offers a refreshed interpretation of the traditional London brick house, blending heritage and modernity. From the street, the façade presents a contemporary twist on the familiar typology, while the rear of the property transitions into a light-filled glass and steel structure. Timber louvres were incorporated to maintain privacy within the tightly packed urban context, while ensuring generous daylight inside. The house features a number of luxury elements, including a subterranean cinema room and a car lift capable of storing up to three vehicles. The build was not without challenges; complications arose when the main contractor went into liquidation, leaving works incomplete and subcontractors unpaid — including glazing specialists, which led to significant issues with window installation. My role involved preparing tender documentation and assisting my director in his role as Contract Administrator. I shadowed him both on and off site, gaining valuable experience in the management of a complex build. I was involved in the project throughout and took a more active role during the tender, construction, and site stages, under the guidance of my director, Kristian Rapallini.
